angelica faz jung: Washing Dishes is Good For You dept. store for the mind, 2017-11-07 When you let yourself focus on any activity, however mundane, when you feel the warm water running over your hands and each dish as you make it clean, your mind begins to settle and stress levels come down. You are in the moment. Everything is as it should be. In the morning when you make your bed, you set the tone for the day. In the evening as you chop vegetables you create a rhythm. And as you clear clutter from the surfaces of your home, so you create space in your mind. When we open ourselves up to seeing it, suddenly there is beauty everywhere in our daily lives. One of the Fives Ways to Wellbeing identified by the New Economics Foundation, and utilised by the major mental health charity Mind, is simply 'taking notice'. Reminding ourselves to take notice broadens our awareness of ourselves and our surroundings. And studies have shown that being aware of what is taking place in the present directly enhances our sense of wellness. It promotes appreciation and making the most of everything that we have. Tend your mind, tend your world.

angelica faz jung: TESOL Technology Standards Deborah Healey, 2011 The TESOL Technology Standards are applicable in a wide range of contexts: foreign language, second language, child, teen, adult, higher education, vocational education, language for specific purposes, and fully online programs; and in settings with low, medium, or high resources and access to communication technologies. Students, teachers, teacher educators, administrators, and researchers will find this an easy guide through the technology standards and how they can be applied in the varied contexts in which language instruction occurs. The book is organized around two strands of standards: Technology Standards for Language Learners and Technology Standards for Language Teachers. Useful supplemental material included for the reader are a comparison of the TESOL Technology Standards with other technology-focused standards, extensive reference lists, a glossary, and an index. Even practitioners with little access to technology resources can apply the standards in their contexts, while those with a great deal of access to technology are encouraged to do as much as their resources will allow. Vignettes provide detail-specific resources, and attempt to offer free and open-source technology alternatives where possible, and in some instances they suggest technology for the physically disabled. Although the vignettes tend to focus on English language learning and teaching, the technology standards can be applied to languages other than English.

angelica faz jung: Humanitarian Architecture Esther Ruth Charlesworth, 2014 Never has the demand been so urgent for architects to respond to the design and planning challenges of rebuilding post-disaster sites and cities. In 2011, more people were displaced by natural disasters (42 million) than by wars and armed conflicts. And yet the number of architects equipped to deal with rebuilding the aftermath of these floods, fires, earthquake, typhoons and tsunamis is chronically short. This book documents and analyses the expanding role for architects in designing projects for communities after the event of a natural disaster. The fifteen case studies featured in the body of the book illustrate how architects can use spatial sensibility and integrated problem-solving skills to help alleviate both human and natural disasters. The cases include: Lizzie Babister - Department of International Development, UK. Shigeru Ban - Winner of The Pritzker Architecture Prize 2014, Shigeru Ban Architects and Voluntary Architects' Network, Japan. Eric Cesal - Disaster Reconstruction and Resiliency Studio and Architecture for Humanity, Japan. Hsieh Ying Chun - Atelier 3, Taiwan. Nathaniel Corum - Education Outreach and Architecture for Humanity, USA. Sandra D'Urzo - Shelter and Settlements and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Switzerland. Brett Moore - World Vision International, Australia. Michael Murphy - MASS Design Group, USA. David Perkes - Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, USA. Paul Pholeros - Healthabitat, Australia. Patama Roonrakwit - Community Architects for Shelter and Environment, Thailand. Graham Saunders - International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Switzerland. Kirtee Shah - Ahmedabad Study Action Group, India. Maggie Stephenson - UN-HABITAT, Haiti. Anna Wachtmeister - Catholic Organisation for Relief and Redevelopment Aid, the Netherlands. The interviews and supporting essays show built environment professionals collaborating with post-disaster communities as facilitators, collaborators and negotiators of land, space and shelter, rather than as 'save the world' modernists, as often portrayed in the design media. The goal is social and physical reconstruction, as a collaborative process involving a damaged community and its local culture, environment and economy; not just shelter 'projects' that 'build' houses but leave no economic footprint or longer-term community infrastructure. What defines and unites the architects interviewed for Humanitarian Architecture is their collective belief that through a consultative process of spatial problem solving, the design profession can contribute in a significant way to the complex post-disaster challenge of rebuilding a city and its community.
angelica faz jung: The Transformative Classroom Douglas Yacek, 2021-05-24 Transformative approaches to teaching and learning have become ubiquitous in education today. Researchers, practitioners and commentators alike often claim that a truly worthwhile education should transform learners in a profound and enduring way. But what exactly does it mean to be so transformed? What should teachers be transforming students into? Should they really attempt to transform students at all? The Transformative Classroom engages with these questions left open by the vast discussion of transformative education, providing a synthetic overview and critique of some of the most influential approaches today. In doing so, the book offers a new theory of transformative education that focuses on awakening and facilitating students’ aspiration. Drawing on important insights from ethics, psychology, and the philosophy of education, the book provides both conceptual clarity and concrete practical guidance to teachers who hope to create a transformative classroom. This book will be of great interest for academics, K-12 teachers, researchers and students in the fields of curriculum and instruction, teaching and learning, adult education, social justice education, educational theory and philosophy of education.

The move to place restrictions on the owners of the networks that compose and provide access to the Internet, to ensure equal access and non-discriminatory treatment, is referred to as ¿net neutrality.¿A major focus in the debate is concern over whether it is necessary for policymakers to take steps to ensure access to the Internet for content, services, and applications providers, as well as consumers, what these steps should be.   angelica faz jung: Augmentation of Brain Function: Facts, Fiction and Controversy. Volume II: Neurostimulation and Pharmacological Approaches , 2018 The Volume II is entitled Neurostimulation and pharmacological approaches. This volume describes augmentation approaches, where improvements in brain functions are achieved by modulation of brain circuits with electrical or optical stimulation, or pharmacological agents. Activation of brain circuits with electrical currents is a conventional approach that includes such methods as (i) intracortical microstimulation (ICMS), (ii) transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and (iii) transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). tDCS and TMS are often regarded as noninvasive methods. Yet, they may induce long-lasting plastic changes in the brain. This is why some authors consider the term noninvasive misleading when used to describe these and other techniques, such as stimulation with transcranial lasers. The volume further discusses the potential of neurostimulation as a research tool in the studies of perception, cognition and behavior. Additionally, a notion is expressed that brain augmentation with stimulation cannot be described as a net zero sum proposition, where brain resources are reallocated in such a way that gains in one function are balanced by costs elsewhere. In recent years, optogenetic methods have received an increased attention, and several articles in Volume II cover different aspects of this technique. While new optogenetic methods are being developed, the classical electrical stimulation has already been utilized in many clinically relevant applications, like the vestibular implant and tactile neuroprosthesis that utilizes ICMS. As a peculiar usage of neurostimulation and pharmacological methods, Volume II includes several articles on augmented memory. Memory prostheses are a popular recent development in the stimulation-based BMIs. For example, in a hippocampal memory prosthesis, memory content is extracted from hippocampal activity using a multiple-input, multiple-output non-linear dynamical model. As to the pharmacological approaches to augmenting memory and cognition, the pros and cons of using nootropic drugs are discussed.

angelica faz jung: Cicatrising Conjunctivitis W. Bernauer, M. J. Elder, J. K. G. Dart, F. Bandello, 1997 Cicatrising conjunctivitis is one of the most challenging causes of ocular surface disease today and without appropriate intervention, corneal blindness or loss of sight from supervening infection is common. Because many of these diseases are rare, there is often limited management experience available and the resources for research into treatment and pathogenesis are scarce. This book summarizes present treatment strategies and the clinical and laboratory studies validating these approaches. Topics discussed in this ambitious volume include an in-depth look at non-progressive causes including trachoma, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and ligneous conjunctivitis. It also examines chronic progressive conjunctival cicatrisation, the diseases which cause it, their clinical and laboratory evaluation, immunopathogenesis, sequelae and management. Armed with this knowledge, successful intervention can be planned for the prevention and treatment of a group of diseases previously associated with poor prognoses. Ophthalmologists and dermatologists seeking practical advice about the management of these diseases will benefit most from this book.

angelica faz jung: Fictional Transfigurations of Jesus Theodore Ziolkowski, 2002-04-12 Many novels revolve round the figure of Jesus. Some of the finest of them are defined by Ziolkowski as fictional transfigurations of Jesus. They share a modern hero patterned on Jesus the culture-hero, whose life consisted of the motifs of the last supper, lonely agony, betrayal, trial, and crucifixion. The aesthetic challenge of adapting this most familiar story for their generation has attracted an unusual number of great writers, among them Papini, Kazantzakis, Hesse, Mann, Greene, Faulkner, and Gore Vidal. The form began with the new image of a humanized Jesus which developed in the 19th century. The interest in religious paranoia and hysteria at the turn of the century instantly expanded its potentialities as novelists began to explore the theme of christomania. This was followed by studies of Jesus as a mythic figure and then Marxist-oriented portraits of Comrade Jesus. Finally the form became inverted into parody in the Fifth Gospels in which not Jesus, but Judas, is the central figure.
angelica faz jung: Psychology and the East C.G. Jung, 2018-09-03 'These writings of his are strongly alive; in most instances Jung does not present us with final solutions and last words about any of the great East-West problems, but rather with suggestions for a deeper kind of approach, thus opening up new planes of investigation.' - Journal of Analytical Psychology “My own world of European consciousness had become peculiarly thin... it is quite possible that India is the real world and that the white man lives in a madhouse of abstractions.” C.G. Jung was inspired to write these words after his very first visit to India. Long concerned with the hold that myth and archetype had on the human psyche, it was inevitable that the legendary psychoanalyst would turn his attention to Eastern modes of thought. Psychology and the East collects together many of Jung’s most memorable writings on the subject, including his Psychological commentaries on the I Ching and The Tibetan Book of the Dead, his thoughts on Buddhism and Islam and a full travelogue of that fateful first encounter with India in 1936.
angelica faz jung: Health Care Technology and Its Assessment Henry David Banta, Bryan R. Luce, 1993 Since 1945, a broad array of health care technologies have come into use, including antibiotics, anti-hypertensive drugs, oral diuretics, oral contraceptives, psycho-pharmaceuticals, corticosteroids, vaccines, open-heart surgery, genetics screening, automated clinical laboratories, renal dialysis, and cardiac pacemakers. Unquestionably, these technologies have brought benefits to millions. However, as costs of health care have risen rapidly, governments have increasingly singled out expensive technology as the culprit. The result has been changes in the methods of paying for health care in most countries to control cost rises. This has led to a slowing of technological change in some countries and increasing necessities to choose in all countries. This timely work describes how technology assessment critically evaluates the benefits, costs, and social implications of technology. The book presents an international perspective on health care technology's development and diffusion, and explains how health care technology can enlighten difficult choices faced by policy-makers, clinicians, and patients.
