First ICOVP was held during October 27-30, 1990 at A. C. College, Jalpaiguri under the co-Chairmanship of two scientists, namely, Prof- sor M. M. Banerjee from the host Institution and Professor P. analytical methods in vibrations meirovitch: Flow-Induced Vibrations Eduard Naudascher, Donald Rockwell, 2012-03-27 Despite their variety, the vibration phenomena from many different engineering fields can be classified into a relatively few basic excitation mechanisms. The classification enables engineers to identify all possible sources of excitation in a given system and to assess potential dangers. This graduate-level text presents a synthesis of research results and practical experience from disparate fields in the form of engineering guidelines. It is particularly geared toward assessing the possible sources of excitation in a flow system, in identifying the actual danger spots, and in finding appropriate remedial measures or cures. Flow-induced vibrations are presented in terms of their basic elements: body oscillators, fluid oscillators, and sources of excitation. By stressing these basic elements, the authors provide a basis for the transfer of knowledge from one system to another, as well as from one engineering field to another. In this manner, well-known theories on cylinders in cross-flow or well-executed solutions from the field of wind engineering--to name just two examples--may be useful in other systems or fields on which information is scarce. The unified approach is broad enough to permit treatment of the major excitation mechanism, yet simple enough to be of practical use. |

Magnus, 2012-12-06 According to a proposal made in 1974 by the Gesell schaft fUr Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (GAMM) the General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) decided in 1975 to sponsor an international symposium on Dynamics of Multibody Systems. A Scientific Committee has been appointed consisting of J.D.C. Crisp, Australia, T.R. Kane, USA, D.M. Klimov, USSR, A.D. De Pater, Netherlands, K. Magnus, Germany (chairman). This committee selected the participants to be invited and the papers to be presented at the symposium. As a result of this process 82 active scientific partici pants from 15 countries followed the invitation and 29 papers were presented. They are collected in this volume. At the symposium an additional presentation was delivered: Mrs. E. Gottzein introduced and ex plained a recently completed scientific movie on mag netic levitated vehicles. The aim of the symposium was the exchange of ideas and the discussion of methods and results in the field of Multibody Dynamics. This has been achieved by a really efficient scientific and social progr~m, organ ized for the six symposium days by a Local Organizing Committee. Members of this Committee were: S. Ballout, M. Lippmann, P.C. MUller, W.O. Schiehlen, G. Schweitzer, E. Truckenbrodt, K. Magnus (chair man) and members of the staff of the Institute of Mechanics. |
analytical methods in vibrations meirovitch: The Behaviour of Nonlinear Vibrating Systems Wanda Szemplinska, 1990-06-30 The purpose of this book is to provide students, practicing engineers and scientists with a treatment of nonlinear phenomena occurring in physical systems. Although only mechanical models are used, the theory applies to all physical systems governed by the same equations, so that the book can be used to study nonlinear phenomena in other branches of engineering, such as electrical engineering and aerospace engineering, as well as in physics. The book consists of two volumes. Volume I is concerned with single degree-of-freedom systems and it presents the fundamental concepts of nonlinear analysis. Both analytical methods and computer simulations are included. The material is presented in such a manner that the book can be used as a graduate as well as an undergraduate textbook. Volume II deals with multi-degree-of-freedom systems. Following an introduc tion to linear systems, the volume presents fundamental concepts of geometric theory and stability of motion of general nonlinear systems, as well as a concise discussion of basic approximate methods for the response of such systems. The material represents a generalization of a series of papers on the vibration of nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems, some of which were published by me and my associates during the period 1965 - 1983 and some are not yet published. |
