aaron rodgers childhood: Aaron Rodgers: Biography of a Super Bowl MVP Anita Tsuchiya, 2012-07-30 ABOUT THE BOOK You can be the smartest quarterback in the world and have the greatest leadership skills and run around and all that, but if you can't throw the ball where it needs to be thrown, then none of that other stuff matters. (Troy Aikman) If that’s the case, then Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers could well be the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL. That is what analysts say now, but this acknowledgement was a long time in coming. Surpassing everyone’s expectations except his own, Rodgers flew under the radar for virtually his entire athletic career. He was the college junior who set season, game, and career records at Cal Berkeley only to get passed over by 23 teams on NFL Draft Day. He was the high school senior who set school and state records, only to be denied a single Division I scholarship. He’s the middle school kid who, when asked what he would contribute to the school during his admission interview, answered simply, I'm going to make your sports programs better. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK The Packers had another lukewarm start to their 2010 season, going 6-6. Two of the losses were in overtime, making his career record in overtime games 0-5. The questions of Rodgers’ composure under pressure resurfaced. More concerning than his performance in must-win scenarios was Rodgers’ health. After the game against the Redskins on Oct. 10, he was diagnosed with a concussion. Rodgers kept playing until he sustained a second concussion during the game against the Lions on Dec. 12. He was placed on injured reserve and cleared for play in time to start against the Giants on Dec. 26 in a must-win qualifier for postseason play. Rodgers led the Packers to a 45-17 win and turned in his highest single-game passing yardage of the season, 25 of 37 passes completed for 404 yards and four touchdowns. By defeating the Bears the following week, another elimination game, the Packers earned a wild card playoff spot. Rodgers took his team on the road, defeating the top three seeded teams—the Eagles, Falcons, and Bears (again)—to win the NFC Championship Title and the privilege of playing against the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. The quarterback matchup for Super Bowl XLV was Rodgers versus Ben Roethlisberger. Rodgers and his receiving corps, in particular Jordy Nelson, carved up “the best defense in the league,” completing 24 of 39 passes for 304 yards, 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and 111.5 passer rating. As Rodgers hoisted the Vince Lombardi trophy overhead, linebacker Clay Matthews draped... Buy the book to continue reading! Follow @hyperink on Twitter! Visit us at www.facebook.com/hyperink! He played football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball in the spring. His final numbers at the end of the season were 1,051 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Kaepernick helped the Pitman Pride to an 8-3 record in his junior season that ended on November 19, 2004 against West High School from Tracy, California - a state playoff game where they lost 35-21. Kaepernick was 14-for-27 for 171 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.   aaron rodgers childhood: KD Marcus Thompson, 2019-11-12 Golden State Warriors insider and bestselling author Marcus Thompson “paints a complex portrait and captures all the multitudes of a dynamic athlete trying to carve his legacy” (Jonathan Abrams, New York Times bestselling author) with this definitive biography of one of the most extraordinary basketball players in NBA history—Kevin Durant. The NBA has never seen a player quite like Kevin Durant. Larry Bird wasn’t as quick, Magic Johnson didn’t have such a range, and Michael Jordan wasn’t seven feet tall. Durant handles the ball like Allen Iverson, shoots like Dirk Nowitzki, and has the scoring instincts of Kobe Bryant. He does it in a body that’s about as big as Hakeem Olajuwon. But ultimately, Kevin Durant is like no one but himself. After an incredible first season with Golden State, Kevin Durant earned the coveted NBA Finals MVP award: he was the Warriors’ top scorer in every game of the 2017 Finals, helping the team snatch the title from LeBron James and the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. As a sports columnist for The Athletic Bay Area, and longtime beat reporter covering the Golden State Warriors, Marcus Thompson is perfectly positioned to trace Durant’s inspirational journey. KD follows Durant’s underdog story from his childhood spent in poverty outside DC; to his rise playing on AAU teams with future NBA players; to becoming a star and hometown hero for the Oklahoma Thunder; to his controversial decision to play for the NBA rival Golden State Warriors; to his growth from prodigy into a man, in the first true inside account of this superstar player. With his “gift for insight into people, in a way that might be sui generis among writers” (Ethan Strauss, The Athletic), Thompson has written a powerful, moving biography of a modern-day legend that is also an essential read for all sports fans—or anyone who wants to know: what’s it like to shoot for greatness?

aaron rodgers childhood: Life After Favre Phil Hanrahan, 2011-09-01 The 2008 football season was one of transition for the Green Bay Packers and their legion of loyal fans. For the first time in seventeen years, the Packers were entering the season without three-time league MVP Brett Favre under center. After a whirlwind summer of rumor and controversy, Packers’ management decided traded the thirty-eight-year-old gunslinger to the New York Jets, leaving “Packer Backers” worldwide to cope with life after Favre. Wisconsin native Phil Hanrahan moved from Los Angeles to Green Bay for the 2008 season. He watched games at Lambeau Field and followed new starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he attempted to follow in the footsteps of Favre, a Green Bay immortal. Immersing himself in the worlds of team and town, Hanrahan is reborn a full-blown Cheesehead; living in a hotel that decades earlier had served as the Packers offices, observing training camp practices, interviewing players, attending the Packers’ annual shareholders meeting, tailgating in arctic cold, shoveling snow at Lambeau for $8 an hour, celebrating Packer great Fuzzy Thurston’s 75th birthday at Thurston’s bar, and, at every turn, befriending the scores of die-hard Packers fans he encounters along the way. Hanrahan also journeys far from Lambeau in his pursuit of adventures in Packer Land. He attends road games in Minneapolis and New Orleans and catches others on TV in small-town Wisconsin taverns. He watches one game in a bar and grill owned by rookie receiver Jordy Nelson’s parents in rural Kansas, another at Mabel Murphy’s, a year-round Packers bar located in Scottsdale, Arizona. He also visits Kiln, Mississippi, Favre’s hometown. With energy, insight, humor, and vivid color, Life After Favre tells the story of a singular team and town. Hanrahan reveals the incredible scope and breadth of Packer Nation, and in doing so demonstrates how, when you bleed Packer green, even a 6-10 season can be something special.

aaron rodgers childhood: You'll Grow Out of It Jessi Klein, 2016-07-12 From Emmy award-winning comedy writer Jessi Klein, You'll Grow Out of It hilariously and candidly explores the journey of the 21st-century woman. As both a tomboy and a late bloomer, comedian Jessi Klein grew up feeling more like an outsider than a participant in the rites of modern femininity. In You'll Grow Out of It, Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man, attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called ma'am and miss (miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds). Raw, relatable, and consistently hilarious, You'll Grow Out of It is a one-of-a-kind book by a singular and irresistible comic voice.
aaron rodgers childhood: About Chekhov Ivan Alekseevich Bunin, 2007-06-05 Seven years after the death of Anton Chekhov, his sister, Maria, wrote to a friend, You asked for someone who could write a biography of my deceased brother. If you recall, I recommended Iv. Al. Bunin . . . . No one writes better than he; he knew and understood my deceased brother very well; he can go about the endeavor objectively. . . . I repeat, I would very much like this biography to correspond to reality and that it be written by I.A. Bunin. In About Chekhov Ivan Bunin sought to free the writer from limiting political, social, and aesthetic assessments of his life and work, and to present both in a more genuine, insightful, and personal way. Editor and translator Thomas Gaiton Marullo subtitles About Chekhov The Unfinished Symphony, because although Bunin did not complete the work before his death in 1953, he nonetheless fashioned his memoir as a moving orchestral work on the writers' existence and art. . . . Even in its unfinished state, About Chekhov stands not only as a stirring testament of one writer's respect and affection for another, but also as a living memorial to two highly creative artists. Bunin draws on his intimate knowledge of Chekhov to depict the writer at work, in love, and in relation with such writers as Tolstoy and Gorky. Through anecdotes and observations, spirited exchanges and reflections, this memoir draws a unique portrait that plumbs the depths and complexities of two of Russia's greatest writers.
