Using hand signals and an occasional interpreter, he was able to communicate with some of the children and older people in the villages, learning about them and about their lives. In The Devils Disciple, Strobel shares his personal experiences during one of the most challenging wars the United States has fought.

The accompanying Seawolf was forced to turn back after taking hits, but Weseleskey, with the agreement of his crew, persisted—flying so low under the treeline that they were out of reach of the VC rocket launchers. Weseleskey was awarded the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Navy Cross during his service. This is his story, from early assignments, clashes with superior officers, missions and rescues during the Tet Offensive, to homecoming. It is the story of a quintessential flyer, an American hero who was prepared to speak his mind and take risks—and of the vital role of the Seawolves in the Vietnam War.

Mobile Support Team TWO, Detachment Alpha, was a top secret United States Naval Special Warfare team, composed of specially trained personnel from Boat Support Unit One and from SEAL Team's ONE and TWO. In it's inseption,this team was code named Project Zulu. While a lot of what this group of men did is still classified, their main purpose was to disrupt enemy ambushes of PBR river boats and snatch and grab high ranking enemy officials. This was accomplished by counterambushing the enemy deep within the forbidden reaches of the Mekong Delta and its waterways. The team often remained behind the enemy lines in enemy controlled territory for days disrupting their troop and supply movements. The main motivational factor of wrtiing this book was not to highlight what the author did but to provide the general public and historians a chance to read about the valor and sacrifices that were made by 163 officers and enlisted men, from various points in Vietnam and at varrying time frames. It is a snapshot of the real war, not created in mind by Hollywood or from mistruths often found in other books from those stealing the valor.The author himself is a recepient of The Bronze Star Medal with the Combat Distinguishing Device and feels qualified to speek about the trials and tribulations of those featured in the book. The author served eleven years in the Navy and twelve more years in the Army. He retired as a Master Sergeant E-8. He now lives in Henderson, Nevada with his wife of 40 years..

The chopper units were located throughout Vietnam. During the course of the war, we lost at least 5,139 helicopter aircrew members and at least 588 ground support crew members. In fact, the true number of helicopter air and ground crew members killed or missing in action will probably never be known. Those crew members accounted for a large percentage of all the enemies killed during the war. Those courageous men were American heroes then and will always be American heroes.

My brother wrote to me every time he got some time off from going up in his helicopter and fighting for hours at a time. He had trouble finding time to get enough sleep. I was grateful for all the letters that he wrote to me while there. I tried to get him to come home and not re-enlist like he did. He wanted to stay with his group and fight to the end, not knowing how long it would really take to end this cold war. They called it a cold war, but after reading all of Jerrys letters, I would call it a hot war. It lasted 20 years and we lost 58,267 service men. What a horrible price we had to pay for that war. I could never have the words enough to express my thanks for all these men who gave their lives for our country and for those that died in wars around the world.
